🪪What documents are required in order to hire a van?

We are a member of the BVRLA and follow the industry guidelines and best practices.

  1. What we will need to see is the front and back of your Driving Licence (not a copy).  If you have a paper licence you will need the paper licence and a current passport.
  2. You will also need 2 proofs of address that match your licence address.
  3. We cannot insure you without these.

If you need to, you can update your address on your licence online with the DVLA at https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence?.  It is free to do and the legal part of your licence is changed the next day.  All we will need is the email from the DVLA confirming your application and your old licence.

We require 1 document from list A and 1 document from either list A or B.  We are perfectly happy for you to email a PDF copy.  The documents do need to be dated no more than 3 months before the date of the hire (we make an exception for the council tax only which needs to be this year).

List A
  • Bank Statement
  • Mortgage Statement
  • HMRC Self Assessment/Tax Credit
  • Credit Card Statement
  • Gas, Electric, Water Rates, or Landline Phone Bill
  • Council Tax
They can be in joint names but they do need your name (your partners name on its own will not be acceptable).

List B
  • Shotgun Licence
  • Payslips
  • Mobile Phone Bill
  • Pension Letters
  • Loan Statements

PLEASE NOTE IF THE DOCUMENT YOU INTEND TO PROVIDE IS NOT ON THE ABOVE LIST IT IS LIKELY WE CANNOT ACCEPT IT.

Commonly we are offered insurance documents, car registration documents and invoices.  Regretfully, we are unable to use these as proofs of address.

Upon arrival we are also required to conduct a licence check.  We recommend you review your driving license information in advance.  You can do so via this link at https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.
